Dragon's Lair "DVD"

The new DVD version of Dragon's Lair has a lot going for it. It plays better than the arcade with less seek time (blips) between choices and a slightly clearer resolution. Having played other versions including DVD-ROM this version simply blows all others away. The lower resolution of a TV makes Dragon's Lair look crisp and vivid. The gameplay is still the same as the arcade version, four directions and a sword button. These are approximated by the direction buttons and the play button on your DVD remote. The game options combined with the one play through only storyline make Dragon's Lair much better suited to a rental before purchase. Expect one to three hours to finish the game start to princess's kiss. On the plus side there are some interesting interviews with Don Bluth (animator) and Rick Dyer (creator), their predictions about the future of gaming range from close to laughingly hysterical. Also on disc, 3 previews (Space Ace, Dragon's Lair 2, and the hideously deformed A Fork in the Tale.) and an option to simply watch the game play out without any input (this is a good way to see why you keep dying in a room.). The bottom line: Good for: Non-gamers, old fossil gamers, and to show off your DVD players abilities. Bad for: Gamers looking for replay value, people who hate cartoons, and anyone whose first gaming experience was Goldeneye or beyond (you just won't understand why you can't sniper the dragon.) Rating 7 Gaming Geeks out of ten. If you would like to check out Dragon's Lair or any other great DVD games make sure to visit Digtal Leisure.
