Favorably reviewed, Interstate 76 has quite a following based on Internet
capabilities. The true question is if Vigilante 8 can offer the same engrossing gameplay.
"Vigilante 8 will take the driving combat category to a new level. Players
continually confront their opponents in non-stop, head-to-head combat," states Bobby
Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc.
Set in 1975, Vigilante 8 thrusts players into the desolate American Southwest where a
motorized gang intent on destroying the nations economy by systematically targeting
oil refineries, as well as industrial and commercial installations, is terrifying the
area. In an effort to stop this unbridled reign of terror, a group of citizens decide to
take the law into their own hands and form an organization known as the Vigilantes.
The first heroic act of the Vigilantes is to stop the gang from stealing the
world's most advanced weaponry from a secret military facility. As a result, the
deadly high tech weapons are now in the hands of both the gang and the Vigilantes.
Showcasing a new proprietary 3D landscape engine that delivers ultra-fast gameplay,
Vigilante 8 allows players to choose from twelve fully-loaded muscle cars armed with a
variety of weapons and strategic attack moves. Each vehicle corresponds to a satirical
70s character whose personality adds a unique combat advantage to their cars
moves and tactical capabilities.
Players engage in off-road, car-to-car combat as they battle opponents in eight totally
destructible arenas -- from the California oil fields to a Colorado ski resort -- that
feature realistic terrain graphics as lens flares, real-time reflection mapping, terrain
deformation and intense 3D explosions. Hidden weapons and bonus arenas are revealed as
players level each environment to the ground.
Vigilante 8 offers multiple play perspectives: inside the car or behind the car views,
plus a split screen option for two-player action. Due for release in the first quarter of
'98 is one of the most anticipated Plastation games of the summer! By what
the we played at E3, we are counting the days 'til V8 hits the stores!
The Game Page picks Vigilante 8 as the "Best Car Game of E3". V8 has the
action, graphics and fire power to take the Twisted Metal series head on.
We are all waiting to see what Twisted Metal will rocket back with. All
that we know is this summer promises to be filled with metal, lead, explosions,
and some 70s driving carnage!!!
Yeah BABY!!
